Janet T. Stovin
Janet T. Stovin became an NGO representative for Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ) in 1994 and served as its main representative from 1998-2015. During that time she attended the fourth world conference in Beijing in 1995, as well as the subsequent DPI/NGO conferences at UN headquarters and in Paris, Mexico City, Melbourne and Bonn. Janet served on the DPI/NGO Executive Committee as secretary from 2005-2009, and as chair of the nominating committee. She was reelected to the Executive Committee in 2014, representing the World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ), and serves on the Communications Committee. She became a dual NGO representative for WUPJ and WRJ in 2006 and is now the main representative for WUPJ. Janet attended the recent DPI/NGO Conference in Gyeongju, South Korea both as a representative of WUPJ and the NGO/DPI Executive Committee. Other United Nations’ NGO committees on which Janet works are the Committee of Religious NGOs, Working Group on Girls, NGO Committee on the Status of Women, and the Metropolitan New York Chapter of the U.S. National Committee for UN Women, of which she is a past president.
