Rabbi Ofek Meir
Rabbi Ofek Meir was appointed the Director of the Israel Rabbinical Program at the Jerusalem campus of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) in 2015. A graduate of the program, Rabbi Meir was ordained in 2006 and also received a Master of Arts in Religious Education at HUC-JIR’s New York School of Education in 2006. Rabbi Meir returns to HUC-JIR after decades of visionary educational and rabbinical service at the Leo Baeck Center in Haifa, where he is currently Deputy Director and the Headmaster of Middle School. He began as a Youth counselor, youth program director, teacher of Jewish studies in the High School, and coordinator of Diaspora Educational projects. He founded the Lockey International Center, where he created leadership programs and a variety of educational initiatives. He helped establish and was the founding headmaster of the first private elementary school at Leo Baeck, while serving as rabbi for the school system there. Rabbi Meir is an educational leader, and a musician both in formal and informal settings. He has been involved in creating curricular materials and countless innovative programs. He oversees the Israeli Scouts program at the Center.
