Rabbi Yael Karie
Rabbi Yael Karie was born in Haifa and is a registered tour guide. She has led over 40 Birthright tours, and it was this work that exposed her to the Reform Movement and deepened her connection and faith in Jewish peoplehood. Yael holds a B.A. in Jewish and Religious Studies from the Hebrew University. She is in the process of completing her Master’s in Jewish Studies. Since 2013, Yael has been serving as the regional rabbi of the Sha’ar HaNegev regional council on the Gaza border. In this capacity, she acts as the Jewish leader for residents of ten kibbutzim and moshavim. In light of the unique region in which she is located, Yael has also dedicated herself to peace building in the region by initiating a number of projects to bring the Jewish and Arab residents of the region closer together. In her rabbinic works, Yael seeks to combine the values of Reform Judaism, the values of the kibbutz movement and the humanistic values on which she was raised, and between the four things she loves the most: love for one another, love of nature, love of art and love for the written word. Yael was ordained as a Rabbi in November 2016 by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) in Jerusalem.
